Telnet access has been disabled on some of the ISU Web Servers for Security reasons, however the secure alternative to Telnet is SSH. This set of instructions will show you how to install an SSH Client for use with ISU Web servers.
1. In Internet Explorer, type the following URL on the
Address line:
http://www.indstate.edu/oit1/userservices/ithelp/software/SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe
(or click here).

2. You should get a window that looks like Fig 1, click the Open button.

3. Once the file has finished downloading, the install process will begin.

4. Please click Next when you see the window shown in Fig 3.

11. Double click on the SSH Secure Shell Client icon as shown in Fig 10.

12. Click on the Quick Connect button.

13. For Host name, type in the server you are trying to connect to. Then type you username on the username line. The other two lines should be fine, just leave them as is.

14. Once you click on connect you will be prompted for the password.

15. You should get a tiny window labeled "Add Profile", choose a name for this connection (if its for web.indstate.edu, you could call it web.indstate.edu) then click on "Add to Profiles". This will enable you to go the yellow "profiles" button and choose web next time for a faster connection.

16. You are now logged into your
account via SSH.
You can do everything you can with Telnet in
this window. For example, Fig 15 shows how to change the account password by
typing passwd at the prompt. Do not type this command if you do not wish to
change your password.
