There are currently
two standard security protections required for
access to the Indiana State University campus network. If you have the
following items covered on your computer before the implementation, the
Cisco Clean Access process will be much quicker.
1. Your computer has the latest Windows updates.
The Microsoft Web site at
http://update.microsoft.com/
provides updates for Windows operating system software and Windows-based
hardware. Updates are small pieces of additional software that address known
issues and help protect against known security threats.
Windows Auto-update should also be enabled to download updates as they are
released. If you turn on Automatic Updates, Windows Update can automatically
deliver high priority updates to your computer as they become available. If
you have questions on how to set this up, please call the Help Desk at 2910.
2. Your computer has anti-virus software installed with the most recent
updates.
Indiana State University
uses McAfee Virus Scan software and provides this software to students. The
download is part of the technology fee and all students are encouraged to
use McAfee software as it is the University standard. You can download the
student licensed version of McAfee Anti-virus software at
http://ithelp.indstate.edu/mcafee/home.html.
NOTE: If you choose to install the free McAfee virus
protection, you should uninstall any other virus protection software on your
computer. If you do not do this, there could be a conflict when installing
McAfee.
If you have installed the ISU student licensed version of McAfee, you need to right click on the V-shield on the toolbar on the bottom right corner and choose “Update Now...". If your version is up-to-date, no updates will be available.
ISU is allowing those students who have already installed Trend Micro, Symantec, and others to continue using it. A qualifying and up-to-date anti-virus installation is required to log on to the campus network.
To check if you have up-to-date software: Open your anti-virus program from the Start menu or the taskbar notification area, and look for update status. If you still aren't sure if your anti-virus software is up-to-date, contact your anti-virus software provider.
