Minimum Skills Testing FAQ

Why Take the Test?

When applying for a job at the Computer Labs, candidates must first take the Minimum Skills Test (MST). This is just to give us an idea of your computer skills. If you are hired, you will be required to pass each section of the test with an 80% or better. You will have 30 days from your hire date to retake the test and optional paid training will be provided.

What Subjects are Covered?

ISU Network and Portal, Computer Hardware, Windows XP, Word 2003, Excel 2003, and PowerPoint 2003.

How Can I Prepare?

Self-Study guides over many topics are available online http://www1.indstate.edu/cirt1/ittrain/tutorials.php

How do I take the test?

The test is available on Blackboard.  In the "Courses" tab, search for "Computer Lab Training".  Enroll in the course using the password: oitlabs.  Once you are enrolled in the course, go to the "Minimum Skills" section and take all 6 first attempt tests.  Do NOT take the second attempt tests, these versions are for employees who have attended training sessions.

If you have any problems with this procedure, contact the Student Managers at 237-8396 or Kristie Bigler at 237-7824.
