Strategic plan InitiativeS

As part of the “Pathways to Success” strategic plan, the following initiatives are underway.

Initiative 1: External consultants to review grant/contract proposals

Up to $5,000 in funding has been made available for speaker fees for grant workshops hosted at ISU or for hiring external grant reviewers. External reviewers (employees of ISU are not eligible) may be hired to review proposals requesting $100,000 or more in external funding.   The application to apply for this funding is available on the forms page of the Office of Sponsored Programs site at http://www.indstate.edu/osp/Forms/forms.htm.   Applications for this support will be reviewed by a small committee comprised of representatives from the Office of Sponsored Programs, CIRT and faculty.  The external reviewer must complete their review of the grant application within 7 days of receipt.  An agreement with the external reviewer will be provided by OSP and required for each consulting event.

Initiative 2: Incentive awards for funded external proposals

Effective for proposals submitted after January 1, 2010 and awarded by an external sponsor, a stipend of $500 will be paid for up to three investigators.  Stipend recipients must be identified within the proposal as either a PI or co-PI as defined by the funding agency and must be an ISU employee.  The stipend is not subject to the institutional summer and academic year compensation caps.   Only one stipend per calendar year will be paid to an individual investigator.  The stipend will be paid on new competitions only.  Applications for continuation funding or grant renewals are not eligible.  The award to ISU must be at least $25,000. Stipends will be paid until allocated funds are exhausted.

Initiative 3: Planning activities for each college

$7,500 in funding has been made available to reimburse colleges/departments for expenses associated with holding planning events to establish specific grant and contract goals for their college and/or individual departments. An additional $5,000 has been made available for grant workshop fees for interested faculty. Requests for reimbursement should come from the Deans to the Provost and AVP Green and include a detailed summary of the specific targets and goals that resulted from the event.

Initiative 4: Planning and training activities for departmental chairs or their designees

While both OSP and CIRT offer workshops and provide support throughout the year, this funding will enable them to offer events with a little more visibility and hopefully generate more interest and participation.

Initiative 5: Travel Funds for Faculty to Meet with Program Officers

$5,000 has been reallocated to pay for faculty travel to meet with grant program officers. Requests for faculty travel support should be sent to the Director of Sponsored Programs.
