Department of Physical Education
General Information
The Department of Physical Education provides the opportunity
for students to:
- Gain a teaching license;
- Pursue a major in Sports Studies with specializations in
adult fitness and exercise science;
and
- Develop physical fitness and sports skills through activities offered in the
General Education program.
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Physical Education majors may earn either the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor
of Arts degree. Candidates for these degrees should consult the University
requirements for graduation, including General Education requirements, described
in the University
Catalog. International students need apply to the
Office of Admissions.

of HHP's web page. Interested students need to apply to the
School of Graduate Studies.
All departmental programs are highlighted by:
- Accreditation from the North Central Association for Teacher Education;
- Opportunities for on-site learning experiences in education and professional
areas of study;
- A nationally recognized faculty;
- Personal contact with faculty and other students in small to medium size
classes of between 20 to 35 students;
- Laboratory experiences in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor
learning; and
- Sports activity instruction in excellent facilities.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will find a growing
demand for their skills and talents in a variety of movement and fitness based
activity settings. Career opportunities are available in:
- Teaching physical education at the
elementary school levels
- Teaching and/or coaching at middle and high
school levels
- Corporate fitness programs
- Hospital wellness programs
- Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation settings
- Exercise and fitness leadership in
public and private fitness centers
- Personal training
