Indiana State University

Are you one of those people who haven¨t a clue what you want to study in college because there is so much that interests you? Do you find art, history, psychology, religion, and science all interesting? If so, then being a philosophy major at Indiana State University may be the way to go. Philosophy¨s purpose is to pursue truths, establish evidence, and provide methods for resolving conflicts to answer life¨s more intriguing questions. A philosophy major seeks answers to questions such as:

  • Does God exist?
  • What makes an action right or wrong?
  • Do we have free will or are our actions determined?
  • Should we obey an unjust law?
  • What is the meaning of life?
  • Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
You may not realize that many well-known people chose philosophy as their college major. Leaders such as Martin Luther King, Jr., President Bill Clinton and presidential candidate Patrick Buchanan, athletes such as former quarterback John Elway, and performers such as Woody Allen, Harrison Ford, Jay Leno, Susan Sarandon, and Bruce Lee, chose the philosophy major as the base of their college education.
