Friendship is the highest form of moral excellence, according to Aristotle. His description of the moral virtues in the Nicomachean Ethics brings out some important features of friendship and of moral action in general. I will describe the kinds of intelligence that define moral action and friendship by examining the first person experience of friendship with the help of Aristotle’s description of moral virtues.
