Expertise and Activity Statement

Professor Robert W. Van Sickel (Ph.D. University of California, Santa Barbara, 1996) has previously taught at Purdue University Calumet, the University of California, and Sonoma State University.  Dr. Van Sickel's scholarly interests include Law and the Mass Media, the U.S. Supreme Court, and American Legal Culture.  He is the author of Tabloid Justice: Criminal Justice in an Age of Media Frenzy (2002) and the Jurisprudence of Sandra Day O'Connor (1998), as well as a number of  articles and papers analyzing various aspects of the legal system, the media, and American political culture.  His current teaching and research interests are centered on the Federal Communications Commission and the politics of Internet regulation.

At Indiana State University, Professor Van Sickel teaches courses such as Law and American Society (PSCI 419), the Judicial Process (PSCI 308), Law and Mass Media (PSCI 400), Constitutional Law (PSCI 418), and Western Political Thought (PSCI 319).
