Pre-Law students at ISU plan to apply to law school. The Pre-Professional
Advisor helps students develop strategies for selecting courses, identifying an
appropriate departmental major, and navigating the Law School application process.
Pre-Law students will select a
major field of study (degree
program) during the second or third semester of study. A Faculty
Advisor will then be assigned to help students develop a plan to meet
ISU degree requirements for that major.
Pre-Law students should select courses that develop oral and written communication skills and critical thinking skills. Selecting interesting, challenging, and diverse elective courses is recommended. Students will also be encouraged to participate in volunteer activities, internships, and community service.
No specific major or course is required to apply to law school. The American Bar Association does recommend selecting courses that focus on developing specific set of core skills and values. To read the ABA's complete statement on preparing for a legal education, click here.
