Expert and novice gardeners are invited to take part in the Terre
Haute Community Garden. Plots measuring 10' x 10' are available
for individuals, families, and organizations for the 2008 growing
season. The Community Garden is organized by Indiana State University,
Purdue Extension, Sisters of Providence, White Violet Center, Catholic
Charities of Terre Haute, Downtown Terre Haute, the City of Terre Haute,
Wabash Valley Master Gardeners, and The Apple House.
- Location: 219 N 11th Street
- Growing season: April 25 - October 31
- Cost: We ask every gardener to donate a
portion of their produce to the food pantry of their choice,
through the Catholic Charities Food Bank.
Mission
The Community Garden Project provides gardening opportunities for the educational,
social, and physical well-being of the community. The goals of the
Terre Haute Community Garden Project include:
- Promote food security and awareness of hunger in the local community.
- Support education of children and adults regarding gardening, nutrition, and the environment.
- Improve access to healthy and nutritious food in the local community.
- Contribute to the beautification of the community.
- Provide a model of the best gardening practices and demonstrate what community members can do in their
own yards.
- Contribute to the environmental sustainability initiatives of the local community and ISU.
Additional Information
- Tools and garden hose will be available during scheduled hours each week.
- The community garden is pesticide, herbicide, insecticide, and fungicides free.
- Expert consultation will be available through volunteers.
- Educational programs will be available throughout the growing season.
The Garden Plot Registration Form and Community Garden Rules
Form are required forms that must be filled out and turned back
in.
