ISU Journey Youth Work Fellowship Program
Description
Collaborative project that facilitates student exploration of self and youth work.
Rationale
Currently, there is no academic program at ISU focused on
preparing students for youth development work.
Purpose
To promote the field of youth work and youth serving fields through:
Student self-exploration and exploration of careers in the field
- Use of Fall and Spring Retreats
- Continued involvement through student organization
- Projects
- Attending seminars, guest speakers, workshops, and conferences
- Pre-internship community practicum experiences
Student academic preparation in the field
- Follow a competency-based curriculum (in development)
- Cross-disciplinary preparation
- Receive a certificate in youth work
Faculty development and collaboration
- Involvement in program leadership
- Attending guest speaker sessions
- Work with community agencies
- Research and writing in area of youth work
Cooperation with community agencies.
- Use of training programs targeting needs of agencies, students,
and faculty
- Student involvement through pre-internship practicum and
internship requirements
Objectives
- To provide an opportunity for students to explore the field of youth development.
- To provide high-quality, structured service-learning experiences in the field of youth development.
- To encourage the development of leadership skills for students interested in youth development.
- To create a diverse network of faculty, students, and community partners interested in youth development.
- To provide opportunities for personal grounding for students interested in youth development.
