The Office of Recreational Sports
at Indiana State University, in association with Southern Indiana Scuba Diving Specialists, is proud to offer SCUBA Courses through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors Program (PADI).  The courses that are offered are Discover Dives (every first Tuesday of the month), Weekend Open Water Courses (two weekends), and Advanced Open Water Courses (one weekend).  All participants must be 13 years of age or older.

Discover dives

This gives the participant who has always wanted to try SCUBA, but never had the opportunity, to try it.  The participant will get into the pool with real SCUBA equipment under the supervision of a professionally trained and certified PADI Instructor.  All supplies will be provided to the participant, all that is needed is a swim suit and towel.

Prerequisites:  None (Open to all participants)

Cost:  $15 per participant, per session

weekend open water course

The student will be in a class of not more than 12 people sharing the fun and thrill of learning something new and doing something that they have always wanted to do. This class is based on the participant having viewed the DVD, read the book, and answered the knowledge review at the end of each chapter before the class. It is the option for participants with limited time or wanting to get the most for their money in a short time. The class is structured so that they will meet one weekend which will consist of Classroom and Pool Work (Part 1); the second weekend will comprise of Open Water Checkout with participants meeting at the Southern Indiana Scuba Dive Shop in Bloomington, Indiana then riding over as a group to Half-Moon Beach in Mitchell, Indiana (Part 2).  Travel to and from Bloomington, IN for the Open Water Checkout Dives will be the responsibility of the participant.     

Prerequisites:  None (Open to all participants)

Will Receive:  Lifetime Open Water Certification

Spring 2013 Semester

Class and Pool Work - Part 1

Option 1 - Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24 or

Option 2 - Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7

Times: 8:00am to 2:00pm

Location: ISU HHP Building (B95 and HHP Pool)

Open Water Checkout - Part 2

Option 1 - Check out Dives Completed During SCUBA Spring Break Trip (Mar. 9-15, 2013)

Option 2 - Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21

Times: Meet at Dive Shop in Bloomington, Indiana at 10:00am

Location: Half-Moon Beach in Mitchell, Indiana

COSTS: $249/ISU student, $299 non-ISU student

Supplies Included in Fees:  Open Water Student Kit, Open Water DVD, BCD Rental, Regulator Rental, Cylinder Rental, and Weight Rental

*All participants must bring their own mask, snorkel, boots and fins to each class.  These supplies are available for purchase at the start of the course as an alternative.(Optional)

advanced open water course

This class is designed for the diver that wants a better understanding of diving or would just like to be introduced to some new and exciting specialties. The Advanced Open Water (AOW) course is done over two days.  Students complete five specialty dives and related coursework.  All AOW students must complete a Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive. The other three specialties are up to the student.  Additional specialties include Boat Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diver, and many more.

Prerequisites:  Must possess Open Water SCUBA Certification  

Will Receive:  Lifetime Advanced Open Water Certification

Cost:  $120 Due at Registration; Additional Fees Include Checkout Fee (Approximately $40) and Entrance Fee to Mermet Springs ($40) due on-site

 An Advanced Course will also be offered during Spring Break, March 3/9 - 3/15
