The Office of Recreational Sports at Indiana State University, in association with Southern Indiana Scuba Diving Specialists, is proud to offer SCUBA Courses through the Professional Association of Diving Instructors Program (PADI).  The courses that are offered are Try Scuba, Weekend and Week Night Open Water Courses, the Advanced Open Water Course, Rescue Diver Course, and Divemaster (professional certification, by request only).  All participants must be 13 years of age or older.

TRY SCUBA

This gives the participant who has always wanted to try SCUBA, but never had the opportunity, a chance to give it a shot.  The participant will get into the pool with SCUBA equipment under the supervision of a professionally trained and certified PADI Instructor.  All supplies will be provided to the participant, all that is needed is a swimsuit and towel.

Prerequisites:  None (Open to all participants)

Cost:  $15 per participant, per session

open water course

The student will be in a class of not more than 12 people sharing the fun and thrill of learning something new and doing something that they have always wanted to do.  Upon successful completion of the course, you are issued a lifetime Open Water certification from PADI. This class is based on the participant having viewed the PADI Open Water DVD, read the Open Water book, and answered the knowledge review at the end of each chapter before attending the first session of the class. During the 2014-15 academic year, we are offering both weekend and week-night open water courses (see below).

Prerequisites:  None (Open to all participants)

Will Receive:  Lifetime Open Water Certification

COSTS

$265/ISU student, $315 non-ISU student for the course. There is an additional cost for checkout dives. These vary by location and are as follows:

      Half Moon Beach: $99 (includes gear rental and instruction)
      Mermet Springs: Cost of rental gear, admission, and air fills.

Supplies Included in Fees:  Open Water Student Kit (including DVD), BCD, Regulator, Cylinder, and Weight Rental.

*All participants must bring their own mask, snorkel, boots and fins to each class.  These supplies are available for purchase at the start of the course from Southern Indiana Scuba or can be purchased through another retailer.

WEEKEND open water course option

The class is structured so that participants will meet over two weekends. The first weekend will consist of one classroom session and one pool session. The second weekend is set aside for four open water checkout dives. The location of check out dives varies for each course with some conducted at Half Moon Beach in Mitchell, IN, and some at Mermet Springs near Metropolis, IL. Travel to and from the open water checkout sites will be the responsibility of the participant.  The weekend course option is great for participants with limited time.

WEEK-NIGHT OPEN WATER COURSE OPTION

The class will be offered once in the fall semester of 2014 and not in spring 2015. It is structured so students meet Monday through Thursday nights. Monday and Wednesday nights will consist of classroom sessions while Tuesday and Thursday will be reserved for the pool sessions. The weekend after this course finishes, participants will complete open water checkout dives at Mermet Springs near Metropolis, IL. Travel to and from Mermet Springs will be will be the responsibility of the participant.  The week-night course is a great option for anyone who can’t make the weekend course.

advanced open water course

This class is designed for the diver that wants a better understanding of diving or would just like to be introduced to some new and exciting specialties. The Advanced Open Water (AOW) course is done over two days.  Students complete five specialty dives and related coursework.  All AOW students must complete a Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation Dive. The other three specialties are up to the student.  Additional specialties include Boat Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diver, and many more.

Prerequisites:  Must possess Open Water SCUBA Certification  

Will Receive:  Lifetime Advanced Open Water Certification

COSTS: $130 for the course. There is an additional cost for checkout dives. These vary by location and are as follows:

      Mermet Springs: Cost of rental gear, admission, and air fills.

Supplies Included in Course Fees:  Open Water Student Kit (including DVD).

RESCUE DIVER COURSE

The Rescue Diver course is an important and crucial step in expanding the diver's knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level.  This course teaches Self Rescue, Diver stress, Swimming and Non swimming Assists, and many other emergency management skills.  PADI Rescue Diver rating is a prerequisite for all PADI leadership training.

Prerequisites:  Must possess an Advanced Open Water SCUBA Certification and a PADI Emergency First Response certification or first aid certification (with CPR & AED training) from another reputable organization.

Will Receive:  Lifetime Rescue Diver Certification

COSTS: $210 for the course. There is an additional cost for checkout dives. These vary by location and are as follows:

Half Moon Beach: $99 (includes gear rental and instruction)
Mermet Springs: Cost of rental gear, admission, and air fills.

If you do not have a first aid certification, you can add that training course for $45.

Supplies Included in Course Fees:  Rescue Diver Student Kit (including DVD).

DIVEMASTER COURSE

PADI Divemaster is the first level of the Professional Diver ratings and is required to continue on into instructor level training.  The PADI Divemaster course is designed to train qualified individuals as supervisory personnel.  In this role, the Divemaster may either oversee general diving activities or serve as an underwater guide.  The Divemaster may also fulfill important duties as an instructional assistant and may conduct PADI Environmental Orientation dives, and much more.

Candidates will be sharing the fun and thrill of learning and/or developing new leadership skills.  This course is a student driven course, there are nine sessions, then the student has up to one year to complete the self study task, workshops, practical assessments, fill out a application, demonstrate your skills.  Divemaster candidates are REQUIRED have all their own equipment.

Prerequisites:  PADI Rescue Diver Certification

Will Receive:  Lifetime Divemaster Certification (renewal required annually)

COSTS: $550 for the course.
