Graduation Honors
Honors achievements of graduating seniors are recognized by Indiana State University at
commencement and on diplomas and transcripts. Honors are granted to baccalaureate candidates
on the following basis:
- Summa Cum Laude a grade point average of 3.90 or higher
- Magna Cum Laude a grade point average of 3.70 through 3.89
- Cum Laude grade point average of 3.50 through 3.69.
Guidelines for Graduating with Honors
- Students must complete a minimum of 62 semester hours of resident credit and have earned a 3.50
cumulative grade point average at Indiana State University to be
considered for honors. All
academic courses from all accredited institutions are converted to
ISU's grading scale and incorporated
in the honors grade point average.
- To be considered for honors, graduation deadlines are to be
observed. Students who apply after the deadline will not have their
honor printed in the commencement booklet or announced as they walk
across the stage.
- All grades which are on a point basis are used in final honors designation. Grades such as
"N", "IN", "WP", "DP", "S", and "U" are not included in honors GPA calculations.
Courses for which Academic Renewal was approved will also be
calculated into the honors GPA.
For commencement exercises, honors will be determined by the
cumulative GPA index at the close of the preceding term. The honors cumulative
index includes all academic courses from all accredited institutions.
