Graduation Honors

Important notifications regarding commencement, graduation, status of your application for graduation, etc. will be sent to your ISU email account.  This email account should be checked regularly.

If degree requirements are not completed at the close of the semester of expected completion, contact the Office of Registration and Records to change your semester of expected completion.  If degree requirements are not met during the indicated semester, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the Office of Registration and Records and indicate a new completion date.  Call (812) 237-2020 or come to Parsons Hall, room P009.

Graduation Honors:

Honors achievements of graduating seniors are recognized by Indiana State University at commencement and on diplomas and transcripts. Honors are granted to baccalaureate candidates on the following basis: Summa Cum Laude—a grade point average of 3.95 or higher; Magna Cum Laude—grade point average of 3.80 through 3.94; and Cum Laude—grade point average of 3.60 through 3.79.

Guidelines for graduating with honors are as follows:

1. Transfer students must complete 62 semester hours of resident credit and have earned a 3.60 cumulative grade point average at Indiana State University before honors consideration.  All academic courses from all accredited institutions are converted to a 4.00 scale and incorporated in the honors grade point average when determining honors.

2. In all considerations for honors, graduation deadlines are to be observed. Once the commencement announcement has been submitted for printing, there will be no additions made for honors to be announced at commencement.

3. All grades which are on a point basis are used in final honors designation. Grades such as “N”, “IN”, “WP”, “DP”, “S”, and “U” are not included in honors gpa calculations.

Honor candidates who will participate in commencement exercises will be determined by the honors cumulative indexes at the close of the preceding semester or term. The honors cumulative index includes all academic courses from all accredited institutions.

Commencement Ceremony Information:

Students who have applied to graduate during the Spring Semester or Summer Term are automatically invited to attend the May commencement of that year.  Students who have applied to graduate during a Fall Semester are automatically invited to attend the December commencement of that year.  Commencement information will be sent about 6 weeks before the ceremony to your ISU email address.
