Student Recreation Center Fee FAQ
What is the Student Recreation
Center Fee?
This is a dedicated student fee
assessed to support the construction and operation of a
new student recreation center.
Why was this fee enacted?
The need for improved recreational
facilities and opportunities for students was identified
during discussions among Student Affairs staff and
student leaders about the quality of student life at
Indiana State. In April 2004, the Student Government
Association passed a resolution indicating a need for
such facilities and requesting a feasibility study be
conducted. The results of the study, conducted by
Hastings and Chivetta Architects, were presented in
spring of 2005. SGA then conducted a referendum on the
issue of implementing a new student fee to help pay for
the construction and operation of a new Student
Recreation Center. The referendum passed with more than
two-thirds of the students who cast votes being in favor
of it.
Who pays the fee?
All undergraduate and graduate
students who enroll in six or more hours of on-campus
courses at any point in a semester must pay the fee.
What courses are considered
on-campus?
Currently, courses with section
numbers 001-298, 350-397 and 401-499 are defined as
on-campus courses.
When did the fee begin?
The fee was implemented
Fall 2006.
How much is the fee?
Fall 2007
The Student Recreation Center Fee
is assessed when a student enrolls in six or more
on-campus credit hours, beginning with the first fee
assessment of the respective term. The assessment of
the fee is $100 per semester for Fall 2007 and Spring
2008.

there Is there a fee during the summer?

eligible students will be assessed a fee of $40 per
session if they are enrolled in six or more on-campus
credit hours.
If I drop classes and am no
longer taking six or more hours, will the fee be
refunded?
The fee is only refunded if the
student withdraws from the university. The student will
receive a refund consistent with the established
university refund schedule.
How do students pay the fee?
The fee will be assessed as part of
the regular billing cycle for each semester. Just like
other fees, it may be included in the monthly or
variable payment plan if a student chooses either of
those payment plans.
Will this fee be included in my
financial aid budget?
Yes, the fee will be included in
the cost of attendance. However the lowest assessment
for any classification, which is $60 per semester, will
be used in calculating financial aid budgets for all
undergraduate students this year. For graduate
students, a fee of $25 will be used.
I’m a transfer student. How will
my fee be calculated?
For the 2006-07 academic year, the
fee is based upon the number of credit hours the student
has earned at the point their charges for the coming
term are assessed.
Approved transfer hours become
earned ISU credit hours after a student initially
registers for a term. The fee is based on the student's
number of earned ISU credit hours at the time of his/her
first fee assessment of the term. If a transfer student
processes an initial registration after the first fee
assessment of a term, his/her approved transfer hours
will not become earned ISU credit hours until after
his/her fees have been assessed.
I’m auditing two classes, do I
have to pay the fee?
Students enrolled only in courses
for non-participatory audit do not have to pay the fee.
I’m a Rose-Hulman or St. Mary of
the Woods student taking classes as part of an agreement
with ISU. Do I have to pay the fee?
No. Students enrolled in courses
through the reciprocity agreements ISU has with St.
Mary-of-the-Woods College or Rose-Hulman will not be
required to pay the fee.
I’m taking classes through the
senior citizens program. Will I be charged the fee?
No.
I won’t use the center, do I
have to pay the fee?
Yes. The fee is mandatory if you
are a student who has enrolled in six or more hours of
on-campus courses at any point in a semester.
Other than the fee, will there
be any charges to use the Student Recreation Center?
There are no other mandatory fees
related to usage of the Student Recreation Center.
When will the Center be ready to
use?
Construction is planned to begin in
Fall 2006 with completion approximately 18 months later.
Will my guests be able to use
the facility?
A Student Government Association
committee will oversee all policies and programs of the
facility and will decide this issue at a later date.
I will graduate before the
Center is completed and will not get to utilize the new
center. Do I have to pay the fee?
Yes. The graduated fee schedule for
the first year is adjusted on the likelihood that
students further along in their coursework will have
less opportunity to utilize the new facility. For each
year that a student pays the dedicated fee before the
opening of the student recreation center, that student
will be provided one year of free membership to the
Indiana State University Alumni Association and a free
one-year alumni membership to the center.
Where will the facility be
located?
The new Student Recreation Center
will be located in the southwest portion of Lot A
located north of the library and east of Lincoln Quad.
Plans are being developed to expand parking options
elsewhere to replace the space lost to the construction
of the center.
How will this new facility
impact LeClub?
It is anticipated that the current
LeClub facility located in Hulman Memorial Student Union
will be moved to the new Student Recreation Center. The
satellite operations in Rhoads and Blumberg Halls will
continue to operate.
The University Board of Trustees
reserves the right to change fees at any time in the
future. The right to correct errors is also reserved.
