Shecanna is serving ISU as the Director of Rehabilitation Services. She communicates directly with area healthcare professionals to provide physical therapy and athletic rehabilitation for those on ISU’s campus as well as those in the community of Terre Haute.
Shecanna is from south-central Illinois. She attended Eastern Illinois University and earned a Bachelor in Science degree in Physical Education with Athletic Training option, Psychology minor, and Teacher Certification. She remained at EIU to obtain a Master in Science in Physical Education with emphasis in Exercise Physiology.
Obtaining NATA-BOC certification in February 2003, she relocated to mid-state for a clinical outreach position. She worked closely with healthcare professionals and played an active role in the rehabilitation of industrial workers, athletes, and post-surgical clients. She often volunteered at the local level as a speaker and educator for the profession and general health.
Shecanna returned to school at Governor’s State University to earn a Master in Physical Therapy degree in 2008. While there, she participated in current programs and research as a Graduate Assistant and Teaching Assistant. She has presented research in the local and international arena. Upon graduation she returned to southeast Illinois as a Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer working in a hospital-based center including acute and outpatient services to a full and diverse population. She has experience with clients from infants throughout adulthood with variety of healthcare needs including pain management, post-surgical, athletic rehabilitation, and neurological injuries.
