Liberal Studies
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of
Arts Degree
Requirements
At least 60% of the course work (74 semester hours) for the degree must be
completed in the College of Arts and
Sciences.
Although new freshmen
and transfer students may declare the Liberal Studies major, no student can
declare the Liberal Studies major after earning 77+ hours. Continuing ISU
students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 or higher to declare
the Liberal Studies major.
The Liberal Studies Concentration
requires a minimum of 42 credit hours. No more than 24 credit hours in the
Concentration may be taken from outside the College of Arts and Sciences or from
a single discipline. The Concentration may be satisfied by:
→Completing course work
for two established minors, with a minimum of 9 hours in each minor taken at the 300/400 level
and no fewer than 21 hours total taken at the 300/400 level. At least one of
the minors must be from the College of Arts and Sciences OR
→Completing a program developed in consultation with a
faculty advisor from a Department in which the course work
will be concentrated.
Each student must
submit a Concentration Proposal Form to the Associate Dean
for Student Academic Affairs prior to completing 50 credit hours or within one
semester of declaring the Liberal Studies major.
Students must fulfill the requirements of the
General Education Program
Students seeking the
Bachelor of Arts degree must complete two years of study in a single foreign
language.
Advising
Liberal Studies majors will be assigned a primary faculty advisor by the
Associate Dean and Coordinator of the Program upon
declaration of the major.
