Student Academic Services Center
MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE SASC:
The Student Academic Services Center
(SASC) is an academic support unit that seeks to enhance the academic
performance of all students of Indiana State University through peer
tutoring, academic advisement, academic counseling, supplemental
instruction programs and University 101: Learning in the University
Community (2 credit hours). The Center also provides special academic
support programs such as the Athletic Academic Support Program, Open
Preference Program (OP), Academic Opportunity Program (AOP), Student
Support Services (SSS). The Center also provides special programs for high
school students and their parents through the Center for 21st Century
Scholars!
VISION STATEMENT FOR THE SASC:
The Student Academic Services Center
hopes to enhance the access mission of Indiana State University by
further developing, expanding, and articulating its services to
students, faculty, and programs by providing support services (academic
preparation, advisement, counseling, classroom instruction, tutoring,
mentoring, disability services, first year seminars, and learning
communities) and by employing a diverse and able staff to serve as
teachers, mentors, and role models for at-risk students, nontraditional
students, diverse populations of students, students with disabilities,
student-athletes, and students drawn from the ranks of the lower
socio-economic class in order that their collegiate opportunities and
the likelihood of their retention and academic and professional success
continue to grow. In so doing, the Center will provide the opportunity
for preprofessional experience through positions for student workers as
graduate assistants, interns, mentors, tutors, and persons seeking
practicum placement. Additionally, the SASC hopes to enhance the
visibility of its programs and services within both the academic and the
local communities to increase program participation by faculty,
students, and other interested citizens.
