SYCAMORE UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (SURF) AWARD

  1. $4,000 * award for fall semester
  2. Ten (10) awards available
  3. Not renewable, but funded research positions may be available for subsequent semesters
  4. Admission deadline: November 15
  5. Requirements (listed below) must be satisfied by November 15
  6. Open only to Indiana residents
  7. Not open to out-of-state, international, distance-only, or returning ISU students
  8. All incoming freshmen who are admitted to the University by November 15 and meet the criteria listed below will be eligible to apply for selection to attend an on-campus competition on February 16. The application is available at indstate.academicworks.com All applications must be submitted by January 11, 2013.
  9. To be awarded this scholarship, students must be entering ISU fall 2013 semester.

The Sycamore Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Award will enable students to work alongside faculty in hands-on research. The three featured research areas are community sustainability, genomic advocacy, and health, wellness, and life enrichment. Students from Indiana with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and 1000 SAT (combined math and critical reading) or 22 ACT (composite) are invited to apply to attend an on-campus competition in February. Ten scholarship recipients will be awarded up to $4,000.00 for their fall 2013 semester.

* Students selected for this award will receive a $2,500.00 merit-based scholarship at the beginning of the fall semester applied to their student account. Up to an additional $1,500.00 can be earned by doing hands-on research. A typical research experience would require 10-15 hours weekly.
