The
Noyce Scholarship Program,
Phase II will award scholarship recipients up to $12,000 per year to full time
current ISU students, transfer students, second undergraduate students, and
Transition-to-Teaching students to cover expenses associated with full-time fall
and spring semester enrollment. An additional $2,000 scholarship is available
based on financial need. Mathematics Education students are eligible for up to 2
years of funding and must complete the requirements for a degree in mathematics
education. Science Education students are eligible for up to 3 years of funding
and must complete the requirements for a degree in Science Education and a
second major in Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or a concentration in Earth and
Space Science. Transition-to-Teaching students are eligible for a single year’s
support. The scholarship funds can be used for expenses associated with tuition,
fees, books, and housing associated with fall and spring semesters.
Recipients of the Noyce Scholarship for Secondary Math and
Science Education are required to teach mathematics or science in high need
school corporations following graduation.
Students who receive the Noyce Scholarship must also participate in
co-curricular and professional development activities.
To be eligible for the scholarship program, applicants must
meet the following guidelines:
Enrolled in an
undergraduate, second undergraduate or a Transition-to-Teaching
program in science or math education.
Overall GPA of 2.75
Science and/or Math GPA of 3.0
Junior or Senior class standing at time of
award
Must meet the program’s admissions guidelines
Open to resident and non-resident students
Not open to distance-only and international
students
Open to transfer students

The Charlotte M. Boener
Scholarship is for a student attending Indiana State University who is preparing
for a career teaching science.
AMOUNT OF AWARD:
Amounts vary from year to year based upon several factors, including the
amount of available funds and the number of qualified students who apply.
Funds are intended to be used for educational expenses.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Dr. Boener was Professor of Science Education at Indiana State University
from 1964-2000. She served as the
Chair of the Department of Science Education from 1995 until her retirement in
2000. She received her Bachelor of
Science in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Master of Science from
the University of Arizona and Doctor of Philosophy from the State University of
Iowa. Prior to arriving at ISU in 1964, she held various teaching positions at
the University of Arizona and the State University of Iowa.
In addition to teaching chemistry and general science, she worked in
public television in the Minneapolis area.
From 1950-1952 she was an assistant to the “Minneapolis Science
Consultant,” and helped write and produce the “Teaching Science” program.
ELIGIBLITY REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for the scholarship a student must:
• Be a U.S. resident.
• Be a full time student in good standing during the academic
year at Indiana State University.
• Be enrolled in a Science Education program at Indiana State
University
• Have a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA
The Dr. Marshall E. Parks
Scholarship for Science Education
Dr. Parks, an Emeritus Professor was a vibrant contributor to
the development of pre-service science teachers.
AMOUNT
The scholarship is a one-time award in the amount of $500 and
will be awarded once each year in the Spring Semester.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
Dr. Parks has established the following guidelines for
applicants and encourages all eligible students to apply.
Candidates:
1.
Must be currently enrolled in the Science Education and Biology Double
Major
2.
Must have an overall GPA of 2.5.
3.
Must not be a graduating senior.
APPLICATION PROCESS
1.
All interested and qualified applicants should generate a professional
resume of their academic, work and volunteer accomplishments.
2.
Candidates need to additionally write a two-paged, double-spaced essay
responding to the prompt, “A Vision for Science Education in the 21st Century.”
3.
E-mail Ms. Tammy Barnes (tammy.barnes@indstate.edu) with a statement of
intent to apply for the Marshall E. Parks Scholarship and attach both the resume
and the essay to the e-mail.
SELECTION
Selection will be made by a committee of professors
representing both Biology and Science Education. Selection of the recipient will
be based on:
1.
Meeting the eligibility criteria stated above.
2.
Overall GPA.
3.
Originality, depth of thought, clarity of writing and scholarly ideas
presented in the essay.

Recipients will be announced on or before March 30, each
spring semester
The Dr. William J. Brett
Scholarship
This scholarship honors Dr. William J. Brett. Dr. Brett was
Professor of Life Sciences from 1956 to 1994, and served as Chair for many
years. During his career at ISU, Dr. Brett maintained on ongoing interest in
quality teaching. He established this award to encourage talented individuals to
enter the teaching profession. The recipient will be a junior or senior with a
declared Biology teaching major.

Donald and Mary Jo Stanley
Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mary Jo Stanley in 1989 in
memory of her husband, Donald Stanley. A native of Terre Haute, Mr. Stanley
earned a Baccalaureate degree in 1931 and a Master’s degree in 1945 from Indiana
State. He was a teacher and principal at Fairmount High School prior to
accepting a position as a food chemist with Campbell Soup Company. He retired
from Campbell Soup in 1973 as Assistant Director of Project Standards. Mrs.
Stanley is a native of Peru, Indiana, and was graduated from Chili High School
and Central Business College. She was employed as a secretary by Peerless
Electric Supply Company for many years, later retiring from the Indiana
Employment Security Division after 28 years of service.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be a College of Arts and Sciences new or continuing
student majoring in mathematics, chemistry, physics, science education or other
allied subjects to be eligible.
Other requirements include being a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident of the
State of Indiana, and a record of success in your chosen academic field by
maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. You must refrain from the use of controlled
drugs and/or tobacco. Students who participate in intercollegiate athletics are
not available for this award.
