The color guard is selected in the spring and summer each year. Once chosen they perform at the Brickyard 400, all home football games, any away games the band attends, for the community, and professional sporting events. The guard serves as a major visual and intricate part of the marching band.
Requirements
The color guard is required to perform basic fundamentals: drop spins, basic tosses, laterals, etc. The ability to learn routines quickly with a high degree of retention is necessary in order to keep up with our performances. Therefore, their performance ability and physique should also be of a high standard. The guard is required to participate in a technique/conditioning class. Fitness is very important when performing in major shows and performances in front of large crowds. Practices are three times per week with the band for three hours. College credits are also given for the fall semester and students must stay in good academic standing.
Fall Semester
Football season takes place during the fall semester and the guard performs with the band. During a typical game day the guard can expect to practice in the morning, perform for tailgating, pre-game, half-time, and an occasional post game show. Homecoming will include all of this, in addition to the traditional parade and extended tailgating around "Tent City". Many other performances within the community also take place.
Spring Semester
The spring is a time for most of the community performances and appearances.
