Ms. Sumalayo Jackson

Interim Director of Charles E. Brown African American Cultural Center

Sumalayo L. Jackson joined the Division of Student Affairs as Interim Director of the Charles E. Brown African American Culture Center on October 1, 2018. A native of the Wabash Valley, Mrs. Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from St. Mary’s of the Woods College and a Masters in Student Affairs Administration from Indiana State University. Mrs. Jackson has served as faculty of African American Studies at Indiana State (2006-2007) and of African American History at Eastern Illinois University (2007-2012). Also while at Eastern Illinois, Mrs. Jackson served as the Minority Teacher Identification and Enrichment Program Coordinator (2007-2012). Mrs. Jackson has additional teaching experience as a First Year Seminar and Critical Thinking Instructor at Ivy Tech State College (2012). Mrs. Jackson has served Indiana State as a University College Advisor since 2015. A seasoned, professional, energetic, and compassionate college administrator, Mrs. Jackson was recognized as a Distinguished Professor in 2011 by Eastern Illinois. Mrs. Jackson lives in Terre Haute with her husband Shannon, who is a former ISU football player and coach, her son Bryson and daughter Brylee.
