To determine internal consistency of the UniLOA’s individual scales, standardized Cronbach’s Alpha was selected.

Reported as a 0 to 1 scale, with zero representing items that contribute no variance to one representing total possible variance, social science often regards .7 as a minimal alpha to suggest sufficient quality but higher alpha’s are desirable. At .7, the standard error of measurement is approximately .55 of a standard deviation.

It should be noted that alpha increases as the number of items increases. The UniLOA uses only 10 items per domain, yet each domain possess the following alphas:

Scale ID Scale Name Standardized Cronbach’s Alpha Internal Reliability Estimate
CT Critical Thinking .87
SA Self Awareness .80
CS Communication Skills .80
D Diversity .80
CZP Citizenship .85
ML Membership/Leadership .84
R Relationships .80
