Rent-A-Pike
Greek Beat: Pi Kappa Alpha’s Rent-A-Pike
Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity held Rent-A-Pike on February 2, 2012. This event was held in Dede 1 to raise money for Relay for Life. The members of Pike auctioned themselves off for four hours of community service to the highest bidder. Things like cleaning dorm rooms, doing laundry, and washing cars are just some popular chores that bidders ask the men to do. It’s a fun way to raise money for a good cause, and Pi Kappa Alpha raised a total of $1500 dollars for Relay For Life.

Video of my first day (from London)
The video above shows my first day in Ormskirk! Please check it out. I’d love to hear feedback. It’s been a blast and it’s a beautiful campus. The town is an old market town and venders still set up tents to sell fresh produce and other small items Thursday’s and Saturdays. More videos to come!

Terre Haute native Jon Moore will study abroad.
Jon Moore, an Electronic Media major, started his study abroad journey back in November of 2011. “When I started this semester [Fall 2011] I really had no intentions of studying abroad, I’m currently working two jobs and though the thought has crossed my mind I never had the proper motivation”. Jon met Shawn James, an international student from Malta, who was enrolled at Indiana State University during the fall of 2011. “I met him in class and we became friends instantly”. According to Jon, Shawn told him that England was the place “for a guy like me”.
After scheduling a meeting with Indiana State University’s study abroad advisor Janis Halpern, Jon applied to study in Edge Hill University in Ormskirk and was accepted. To help pay for his trip Jon searched far and wide. Finally, Jon found InternationalStudents.com which allowed him to pursue his adventure of studying abroad. There was a catch, though; Jon needed to enter a video contest for a chance to win a scholarship up to $4,000. This really motivated Jon and he began brainstorming. “With the help of many of my friends, ‘English Swaggin’ was born”. English Swaggin was entered into the competition and Jon won. (View the Winning video below)
Prior to leaving, Jon posted these words:
“As my flight leaves January 4th from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL, I decided to come a week early to spend it with some of my best friends! Take a look at the video I’ve posted, again I would like to thank Samm for putting up with me for a week and letting me crash at her place. Trying to live it up before I say peace out ‘Merica!” (View Chicago Adventures below)
As of today, January 4th, Jon is currently in the air on his way to England. We at SYCmedia and the Indiana State University Communication department wish Jon all the best on his travels throughout England and abroad.
Jon will have more posts from England coming soon. Check back often to see what Jon is doing.
