Established in 1967, The College of Technology is currently comprised of the following six departments:
Academic Programs
Programs within these departments emphasize the technical and managerial
aspects of technology. Students interested in professional and managerial
technology careers have 16 areas of technology from which to choose a major,
plus a number of associate degree programs and supporting minors. Each program
combines classroom lectures, laboratory experiences, field trips, and
internships (co-op) to provide an excellent educational mix. Graduates of
Indiana State University technology degree programs are prepared for careers as
professionals in aerospace, electronics, computer technology, automotive
technology, mechanical technology, packaging technology, construction, computer
integrated manufacturing, human resource development, and graphic arts
management. Students interested in teaching technology at the secondary or
junior high level may follow the industrial technology education major. Students
wishing to teach in industry or the community college may choose the human
resource development in higher education and industry major. Advanced study is
available at the graduate level in both professional and educational areas of
technology.
Professional Practice
The College of Technology at Indiana State
University believes in the value of actual work experience. Students are urged
to apply for internships and to participate in the University's Professional
Practices Program (co-op). Professional organizations are also strongly
supported by the School. Student chapters of many national organizations such as
the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT)
, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME),
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE),
Association of General Contractors (AGC),
and
Epsilon Pi Tau are available on campus. These clubs and groups conduct
seminars and workshops and participate in regional and national conventions as a
means of gaining additional technological information. Membership in these
organizations also provides students with a base for professional contacts and
positions after graduation. Future Direction
The future of technology is one of continuous growth. As new technological fields and methods are developed, the Indiana State University College of Technology will continue to provide the most modern, efficient education available.
