Workshops
Automating Life Around You |
Today’s industries use robotics, sensors, and other moving component such as motors to complete mundane, unsafe task repeatedly with low fatigue. This activity will teach you the importance of robotics, the different types and uses, and how to program a robotic arm to complete task |
Bridge Busters |
Design the strongest and most creative, bridge you can in the allotted time and with limited materials. Then bust it down! |
Bottle Car Challenge |
Are you interested in a challenge? In this workshop you will be creating a car out of several materials including a balloon and water bottle. In a group of 3 or 4 students you will create a car that is able to move with the materials provided. You will be given a certain amount of time to make the model and at the end of the session we will have a race to determine who created the best car that is able to move the farthest. |
Design Interaction |
Do you ever walk into your house and wonder why the rooms are located where they are? What about the rooms inside of a larger building? They are not just placed there at random; there is an organizational system that helps in determining where they need to go. For this workshop, you will explore the skills it takes to become an interior designer. The goal is to be as creative as possible! |
Dream it, Build it |
Learn how today's’ engineers, designers, and modeling artists use computer aided technologies to create and build anything with three dimensions of size. This activity uses the most recent 3D computer aided design modeling software, CREO Pro-Engineer to construct three dimensional parts, assemble multiple parts to form into one component, and test the strength or flexibility of the individual parts. |
Flight 171 Cleared for Takeoff |
Students will be given a brief introduction to the world of flight. They will be able to practice takeoff, flying, and landing in an ISU flight simulator. Students waiting for their turn in the simulator will have the chance to learn the basics of aerodynamics and flying |
Here Comes the Baby! Push! |
Did you know that a robot could give birth? Participants in this workshop will get hands on experience with the technology for healthcare simulation. From giving birth to suffering a cardiac arrest, human patient simulators can do it all! Students will get to run their software, see their 'guts', and use them in action! |
Make or Break |
Your team is to design, build, present, and test an contraption while using the fewest materials as possible that will safely protect a fragile egg from getting scrambled when it hits the ground |
Marshmallow Challenge! |
Take the Marshmallow Challenge! This challenge involves the how to foster the power of innovation, collaboration, teamwork, design and emerging technologies. There will be surprising lessons to learn when teams compare performances! If adventure and fun are on your “bucket list” this is the workshop for you! |
Motivational Team Building |
Have you ever wanted to be a leader? In this activity, you will learn as a future HR leader, we must know how to communicate and motivate in a group of peers. |
There’s An App For That |
How often have you heard "there's an app for that"? All it takes is an idea to start an app. In this workshop you will learn the basics for an easy way to create an Android app. So join us in a fun and easy way to build apps and bring your android device. If you do not have access to an Android device, some devices will be provided, but you will potentially have to share with others. |
Wind Tunnel Aerodynamic Challenge |
Join the ISU Eco-marathon Team in designing an aerodynamically efficient vehicle, carving the vehicle out of foam, and then testing the vehicle in an actual wind tunnel! Learn about aerodynamics, drag, lift, and vehicle efficiency. |
