Biostatistics
The final examination will be on February 23rd, 2007 from 10:00 am to 12 p.m.
This is a self-study course that is based on
High-Yield Biostatistics by Anthony N. Glaser and Medical Statistics by Lee Willoughby. The Glaser book is available and you should purchase it. The Willoughby text is a pdf document available from the Angel course site. You should open it and print a copy for your use. You must also be registered for this course inorder to have access to the Angel course site. The entire content of the course is based on the two texts, High-Yield Biostatistics and MedicalStatistics. Although there is some overlap between the two sources, the Willoughby text does cover material that is not present in Glaser. To pass this course, you must pass the Angel administered final exam with a score of 70% or better. You may take the final exam from any computer with high speed web access to the IU network, although you must take it on the date and time specified by the course administrator. The final exam consists of 66 multiple choice questions and is limited to two hours. This is a closed book exam and you are on your honor not to use outside materials while taking the exam, and not to discuss the exam or its content with other students. If you fail the final exam, the course administrator will contact you and arrange for you to take theexam again. You must re-take it until you pass, therefore, all students will pass this course.
The grading scale is:
90% - 100% Honors
80% - 89% High Pass
70% - 79% Pass
if you have to re-take the final exam, the highest grade you will earn is a Pass.
How to Study with Angel
1) Read and study a chapter in Glaser. Then check the same subject in Willoughby. Although this source is fairly redundant with Glaser, there are a few items in it that are unique, so you should check it out. Reading Willoughby will also give you a good idea of how well you are picking up the pertinent ideas in Glaser.
2) Take the Angel self-test on the chapter. You will note that there are two self-tests for each chapter. It doesn’t matter which you take. If you pass with a 70% or better, go on to the next chapter. If you don’t pass, re-study the material and then take the other self- test. Repeat the process until you have achieved a 70% level of achievement for that chapter. No records are kept of the scores you make on the self-tests or the number of times you take them.
3) At the designated time, the final exam will become available on Angel. You must take the final exam during the exam window. The date and timing of this window will be determined by the course administrator. Once you start the final exam, you will have two hours to complete it. Re-takes of the final exam will be determined on an as-needed basis.
