The Rural Medical Education Program is currently being developed by a team of medical educators around the state.  It will be implemented at the Terre Haute site, starting with the academic year of 2008/2009.

The medical education program will integrate basic and clinical sciences with a focus on rural medicine. It will center on the following five action items:

  1. Recruit Hoosiers from underserved areas and populations
  2. Teach science from the perspective of clinical medicine (Basic Science Years)
  3. Teach medicine from the perspective of rural health (Clinical Years)
  4. Develop 21st century tools for the rural physician
  5. Promote research in community health
