Crossroads Repertory Theatre announces its 2010 season!

The CRT season opens on June 18th with the Neil Simon classic comedy The Sunshine Boys directed by Artistic Director Arthur Feinsod. For that show CRT is proudly featuring two Terre Haute legends: Chuck Shutt and Lew Hackleman, whose brilliant work as actors and directors, have graced the stages of Terre Haute for decades. This Simon masterpiece depicts a famous vaudeville duo that had a serious rift many years before but now must find a way to work together for a lucrative CBS documentary deal. It is surely Simon at his funniest! This show is sponsored by Phyllis and Ned Dye Turner and is dedicated to all undergraduate and graduate ISU Theater Department students, past and present.

The second show, opening on the weekend of June 25th, is the Midwest premiere of Edmund White’s Terre Haute directed by Dale McFadden. After celebrated performances in New York and London, this play finally comes to the town that bears its name. The piece centers on prison interviews, conducted by a character based on novelist Gore Vidal (Mark Douglas Jones), of a death-row inmate, based on Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh (Drew Hampton). The two struggle to find common political ground as one adheres to the sacredness of human life, the other to individual freedom. Set in the U.S. federal prison in Terre Haute on the eve of the execution, this riveting play invites reflection on the bombing that killed 168 people, the events that led to this heinous act as well as the ethical conflict and yet surprising attraction between two men from vastly different backgrounds. Following performances here, Terre Haute will go to the Indiana Repertory Theatre, CRT at IRT, for three performances in Indianapolis! The tour of this show is sponsored by a generous grant from the Indiana Arts Council through Arts Illiana.

CRT is excited to continue its dedication to produce a show for the entire family especially geared to younger audiences. This year, opening July 1st, CRT proudly presents Pixies, Kings, and Magical Things: Three Tales by Hans Christian Andersen by Ric Averill. This collection of stage adaptations of heart-warming, humorous, and message-bearing tales by one of the world’s great storytellers includes the classic “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” In addition to performances at the New Theater, this show will tour to Deming Park, Ryves Hall, and Maryland Community Church, thanks to a Terre Haute City Arts Grant, and is the Diana Stewart Memorial Production for the summer 2010 season.

The final offering, which begins playing on the weekend of July 9th, is a harrowing adaptation of the Mary Shelley classic Frankenstein by R. N. Sandberg. This chamber piece will be presented by a cast of CRT favorites: Mark Douglas Jones, Julie Dixon, Brandon Wentz, and Drew Hampton. Associate Artistic Director Chris Berchild will be staging this masterpiece, not only employing cutting-edge technology for a visual feast, but will use this parable on technology to question itself, raising profound ethical questions about its uses and abuses. This show is sponsored by the Donald and Gretchen Bauer Jennermann Fund for Theatre Classics.

Beginning Tuesday, July 13th the four shows enter their repertory phase, with a different show each night of the week. This rotation closes with Pixies, Kings, and Magical Things on Saturday, July 24th.
