Civil Engineering

Students in the Civil Engineering seminar will gain experience in the three primary areas of Civil Engineering: Environmental, Structural and Transportation. Students will have the opportunity to interact with faculty and professional engineers through lectures, interactive design problems, hands on laboratory experiments, and both virtual and live tours of Civil Engineering infrastructure. Students will build water filters based on principles used at water treatment plants, design model bridges that will be load tested for strength, use advanced design software for bridge designs that includes cost estimation, participate in a transportation safety study utilizing a state of the art driving simulator, and design traffic signal timing plans where students will learn how to program a traffic signal controller used by the Indiana Department of Transportation.
