Drugs, Pharmaceuticals, and Medicinals

Students in this course will obtain an understanding of essential concepts related to drugs and bioactive compounds including: What is a drug? How do drugs work? Where do drugs come from? What are the benefits and risks of drugs to people and society? How are drugs developed and marketed? What are the differences between legal and illegal drugs? Utilizing ISU’s Organic Chemistry Laboratory, students will conduct experiments that isolate or synthesize a number of compounds and will analyze their composition.

Please note that high school chemistry is a prerequisite for this seminar.
