What do you like most about being an Honors student?
I love that Honors gives me opportunities to become part of a larger community on campus. Through the Honors College, I am able to take classes with students who share my same motivation and drive. Honors also allows me to take more away from classes within my major because I am able to collaborate with my professors to personally tailor my classes into Honors courses.
Leadership and involvement at STATE:
I received the University Honors Scholarship through the Honors College. This scholarship allows me to meet with community and campus leaders to discuss a wide variety of topics. I also have become involved on campus through community service. I was involved with the BEST Scholars Program my freshman year. This program has the goal of producing teacher leaders who recognize, and are equipped to handle, the ever-changing demands placed on teachers and students. Through BEST, I became extremely involved on campus and in Terre Haute. Over the course of the past two semesters, I have volunteered at Sarah Scott Middle School to tutor students. I was also able to attend conferences, meetings, and networking events that allow me to improve my professional development. Additionally, I am part of Sigma Alpha Lambda which is a service and leadership organization. I served as Historian for the 2018-2019 school year. I will be serving as Vice President for the 2019-2020 school year.
What advice do you have for incoming Honors students?
Step outside of your comfort zone! Indiana State University has so many great opportunities to take advantage of—especially the first few months of school—so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! Be confident in knowing that you are never alone because you have the Honors College as your support system in anything you do. Most importantly, have fun because you are about to experience the best adventure of your life!
