The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
The University offers a bachelor of science (B.S.) in special education that prepares students for licensure at the preschool-12th grade levels in Indiana.
Coursework includes professional education courses along with Foundational Studies. It is strongly recommended that students enroll in another education content area in addition to special education to increase marketability after graduation (for example, elementary education, math education, or science education).

Special Note: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, job opportunities for teachers over the next ten years will vary from good to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level, and subject taught. Teachers who are geographically mobile and who obtain licensure in more than one subject should have a distinct advantage in finding a job.

The Teacher Preparation Program at Indiana State University is recognized throughout Indiana—and the nation—for the quality of its graduates. The program was established in 1865, and is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Students have many sources of financial support for their studies, including financial aid, work-study programs, veterans' benefits, and special scholarships for entering freshmen and transfer students.
