Arland D. Williams, Jr., Memorial Scholarship
Criteria
The Arland D. Williams, Jr., Memorial Scholarship provides assistance for Mattoon High School graduates majoring in the fields of business, finance, accounting, economics, or computer science for full-time college juniors, seniors, or graduate students. If there are multiple applicants and funds available, more than one scholarship may be awarded.
Applications
To apply for the this scholarship please click the link below. You will be taken to our scholarship portal with Foundant Technologies. All new users will create an account. Existing users will log in with their email address and password. Once your account is created, locate the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation Common Scholarship and click “Apply.” You will complete the Southeastern Illinois Foundation Common/Universal Scholarship application. This is a general application that will determine your eligibility for one or more of our scholarships. On the portal you may find other opportunities available with this link as well. Applications opened on Monday, January 24, 2022 and applications with all attachments (uploads, transcripts, letters of recommendation, references, etc.) must be submitted by 11:45 pm on Friday, March 11, 2022. Donor Profile
The Scholarship honors the memory of the late Arland D. Williams, Jr., who graduated from MHS. Mr. Williams became a well-known example of extraordinary heroism when his actions saved five people after a 1982 airplane crash in Washington D.C. His selfless actions cost him his life, but his heroism lives on. The scholarship fund was established in May 1983 by Mrs. Virginia Williams, mother of Arland D. Williams, Jr. Since 1985, 36 scholarships have been awarded totaling more than $82,000.
