Mentoring Platform

Indiana State University's alumni have valuable professional and life experiences to share with students that help expand their perspectives, gain advice in specific areas, and acquire networking skills. As many people are receiving job offers based on whom they know and network with, this platform is an excellent opportunity for students to take advantage of. The top skills that companies are looking for across all industries include active listening, speaking, and critical thinking.  Improve these skills by connecting with others, sharing your story and asking thoughtful questions.

If you are an alum of Indiana State University and are looking for a low-time commitment way to give back to your alma mater; and want to help improve future generations’ professional development, this is a great opportunity for you!

“It was very nice having the chance to talk to Tim. He took some time out of his busy schedule to listen to my story and share career advice. He shared useful resources and tips for my current job search.”

  • Maria, Indiana State University Student

“I was excited to be able to speak with and provide advice to a female starting out in the corporate world. It was very exciting to get to interact with and talk to someone and hopefully help them out in their career moving forward.”

  • Andrea, Mid-career professional at Humana, Indiana State University Alum

How it Works

Mentees are matched monthly based on their topic preferences. They are also provided with ice-breaker conversation starters to make communication easier, as well as reminders to connect. Mentees and mentors have control of how often they connect, whether it is in person or virtually, and take accountability for their relationship and what they gain from it. It is always encouraged that good connections remain even after receiving your next match!

Benefits to Students

  • Develop networking and communication skills
  • Gain a better understanding of careers available to them
  • Ability to ask advice from professionals who have been in their shoes
  • Improve soft skills
  • Gain a mentor
  • Expand perspective in and out of their industry
