Pi Day 2020

PI is the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter.

We usually celebrate PI Day on 3/14 because 3.14 is a good approximation of PI.

In honor of PI Day, Indiana State University will not hold any classes on 3/14!

Go, Trees!

Celebrate PI with us!

We will celebrate Pi in the Richard Jensen Easton Mathematics Education Classroom (RO A011) from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on March 11, 2020!

See pictures and prizewinners from previous years at the bottom of this page.

The Wife of Pi

PI is irrational (a nonterminating, nonrepeating decimal).

Full Name

PI is transcendental (not the solution of any integer polynomial).

One approximation of PI is 22/7 which is why countries that list dates as "day/month" celebrate PI Day on July 22!

It is said that computing PI is a good stress test for a computer.

On March 11, 2016 the Mathematics & Computer Science Department hosted a celebration of that wonderful constant, PI!

COOKIES!

Refreshments were served and many participated in activities and contests including: "Write a PI Mnemonic" (contest where each word in a story is the next number of PI digits long), "Computing PI" (demonstration by the CS students & faculty), "Find your birthday or phone number in PI" (activity), and "How many digits of PI do you know?" (contest of memorizing digits of PI - top 8 win a PIE).

Winners of the PI Mnemonic Contest

Can I have a meaty spaghetti to devour?
Would you share?
Negative, obviously noodles determine how my day should've gone.
Please? We talked with our new students who my teacher Christine spoke especially on.
Although students like a spaghetti platter, I prefer spaghetti no shareable.
Counselor Jim thought about a completely crazy marinara to camouflage spaghetti noodles.
That counselor will have nasty spaghetti if the ingredient would've included smelly odor.
