EsColeEs Cole (she/ they)
Es Cole is the Director of Community Learning Programs at Herron School of Art +Design at IUPUI in Indianapolis. They have directed the programs beginning in 2019. This position consists of writing an art curriculum, working with fiscal, developmental, marketing, and communication offices, and collaborating with various community partners. These community partners range from schools to community centers. Currently, The Community Learning Programs include Youth Art Camps, Teen Intensives, Pre-College, and Saturday School, art for all ages. Es is presently pursuing a doctoral program at Indiana University in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Art Education. Previously, Es taught art in public schools at both the elementary and high school levels. After graduating with a MFA in Studio Art, Es taught at Ivy Tech and Vincennes University. While working on their MFA at Indiana State, Es taught for the Community School of the Arts at ISU as Lead Art Instructor. Es also holds a B.S. in Art Education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Aside from their academic and career experiences, Es Cole is a painter and novice gardener who believes that community is resistance. Their interest in mentorship is born out of the desire to provide pathways for others
to use their voices to carry out issues of social justice through visual art education and intervention.
