Janet Palmberg is a specialist in the teaching of early-level piano students and group piano pedagogy. At ISU, she teaches piano pedagogy-related courses and class piano.
Active as an adjudicator and workshop clinician, Dr. Palmberg has authored articles on piano pedagogy that have appeared in professional publications and conference proceedings. She has presented sessions at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, state conferences of the Indiana Music Teachers Association, and national conferences of the Music Teachers National Association. Recent appearances have included presentations at the 2011 and 2015 Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conferences in Australia, the 2012 (Greece) and 2016 (Scotland) International Society of Music Educators World Conferences, the 2014 Indiana Music Teachers Association State Conference, and others for the Indiana Guild of Piano Teachers (2015), and the Arizona Music Teachers Association State Conference (2016). She is slated to be a presenter at the upcoming 2018 state conference of the Indiana Music Educators Association.
As an active member of professional organizations, Dr. Palmberg has held many offices, including President of the Indiana Music Teachers Association, President of the Indiana Group Piano Teachers Association, membership on committees of the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, Secretary of the East Central Division of the Music Teachers National Association, and Foundation Chair of the Indiana Music Teachers Association. She was named Teacher of the Year 2000 by the Indiana Music Teachers Association.
