Dr. Sprock received her B.A. in psychology in 1976 from the University of Miami, her M.A. in clinical psychology in 1980 from San Diego State University, and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1986 from the University of Florida. She completed her clinical internship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Sprock's primary research interests include psychopathology and psychiatric classification, particularly clinical decision making and variables that may bias diagnosis, the construct validity of diagnostic categories, and alternative models of classification. Most of her recent research has focused on the personality disorders and depressive disorders. One line of research has addressed the issue of sex bias in the diagnosis of personality disorders as a possible explanation for the higher rates of diagnosis of some personality disorders for women. A second area has investigated how clinicians conceptualize diagnostic categories, especially those that lack sufficient research to be included as an official category or that overlap with other constructs. A relatively new focus has been comparative research on the proposed dimensional models as alternatives to the current categorical diagnosis of personality disorders. Since most of her research examines diagnostic practices of clinicians through surveys, she is currently developing a methodology to collect data from clinicians via the internet using a web page format. Additional research interests include personality assessment (MMPI-2 and MCMI-III) and bibliometric studies of the psychopathology literature.

Dr. Sprock teaches graduate level courses in adult psychopathology and assessment. She is the Director of the Psychology Clinic and provides clinical supervision to doctoral students in the Psy.D. program. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and HSPP and has a limited clinical practice focusing mostly on diagnosis and assessment.
