In this series I explore feelings of solitude that arise during isolation.  My intention is to display photgraphs that represent the way in which isolation affects people.  Distance has given me a self-awareness, leading me to think about how I affect others as well as how that alters my own character.  With the current pandemic, I find young adults like myself are reevaluating their environment and looking for solutions to existing issues.  My goal is to give the viewer a different way to think about how the situation has affected them, and how these subjects might be dealing with their own solitude.

I've always been drawn to portraiture.  I think a face or figure can effectively communicate feelings, sometimes creating an interpersonal relationship with the audience.  Photography gives me the tools to capture a moment in time.  Most of my college career I've experimented with film and alternative processes.  I have chosen to exhibit work that was recorded on film (both 120 roll film and Polaroid), rather than digitally because it renders my subject with a soft quality that feels like recollection.  I have focused on the ways my generation deals with feelings of inadequacy, longing, and finding peace in everyday experiences.  I want to communicate the process of how we heal, as well as the fact that it's okay to face the unknown with less control over the outcome.

Bailey McWilliams will be graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a 2D concentration.
