As a ceramicist I like to begin with wheel thrown objects and transform them into sculptural vessels through both additive and subtractive processes.  I attempt to mimic the immediacy of throwing clay while carving it by focusing on intuitive, arabesque lines that enhance the original form of each piece.  By modifying the rim and foot of each vessel I hope to blur the lines between the top and bottom--the inside and out--and create something entirely new and dynamic out of something that was once very traditional.

Rodney Black will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with a 3D concentration.
