Admission Requirements - School Psychology (Ed.S., Psy.D.)

Applications are accepted for Summer or Fall admission. Full consideration is given to applications completed by the end of the first full week in January. Rolling admissions are available for applications completed through May 1st, as space allows.

Our programs are committed to admitting students whose likelihood of success is greatest, both during graduate study and throughout their professional careers. Admission to the program represents a major commitment for the University and for the student. The school psychology faculty encourages applications from those who are seriously committed to careers in professional psychology and school psychology. Admission decisions are based upon several items including prior undergraduate and graduate coursework and GPA; work and service experiences, especially with children and adolescents; research experience; and overall student-program fit.

Instructions for applying to ISU School Psychology Programs

A complete application to the Ed.S. or Psy.D. program in school psychology requires the following:

           1. Complete application to the College of Graduate and Professional Studies (see instructions below).

           2. Undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above. (Individuals with an undergraduate GPA between 2.7 and 3.0 may be provisionally         admitted based on the strength of other submitted application materials.)

           3. Official transcript from each school at which any undergraduate or graduate work has been done.

           4. Professional resume or curriculum vitae.

           5. A 2-3 page statement describing why the applicant believes they are a strong candidate for admission and how they believe the        program aligns with their professional interests and goals.

           6. Two letters of recommendation from persons who know the applicant in an academic and/or professional capacity.

           7. Upon invitation from the program, completion of an individual admissions interview.

Instructions for completing a program application are below:

           1. Access the online application to the ISU College of Graduate and Professional Studies         (CGPS): http://www.indstate.edu/graduate/apply.htm.

           2. In the “Graduate Program of Study” section of the main application, select the “Main Campus” option and then “Psychology” as your           “Field of Interest.

           3. In the “Recommendations” section of the main application, enter contact information for at least two individuals who will provide a           letter of recommendation.

                 a. We recommend entering three recommenders, in case one does not follow through by the application deadline; however, only two             letters are required.

                 b. If you choose the electronic submission option, be sure to check with your recommenders to ensure they received the invitation from Indiana State University (admissions@indstate.edu).  Sometimes these automated messages get caught by organizational “spam” filters.

           4. After completing the “Review and Submit” step on the main application, there will be another page that lists additional required documentation, including a resume/CV and personal statement.

You may upload all materials at the time you complete your main application, or you may log back in to submit them at a later time. You should receive a confirmation email from Indiana State University (admissions@indstate.edu) with instructions for logging in to your application.

Your application will not be forwarded to the program for review until all materials are received. Please contact Missy Allen (melisa.allen@indstate.edu) for questions about your program application.
