Description

Ages: 5-8

Students will learn basic hand-building skills and techniques: pinch pot, coil, and slab. Students will also experience the pottery wheel to gain experience in throwing a pot. Some projects that will be completed during the week are pinch pot monsters, bobble-head animals, "piggy" banks, textured wall pockets, coil vessels/vases, and relief tiles. Students will return after work has been bisque fired to glaze and finish clay pieces. There will be other finishing options to try, too! Returning students are welcome and will be challenged to build upon skills previously learned. Materials are provided.

Note to Ceramics Students: Students will be underglazing their work before final firing. Clay must be completely dry before glazing and firing. All ceramics students are invited to come to class on Friday, July 22, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. At this time ceramics work will be dry and ready for glazing. After the glazing session, the work will be fired and then ready to take home.
