Strokes of Genius

Between the ages of 8-11, children begin to depict realistic representations of their surroundings and themselves. This art class will support students in portraying perceived reality through observational drawings and paintings. Self-portraits that creatively explore identity, landscapes that become mixed media Surrealist images, and abstract paintings that encourage students to explore unusual materials, will all add to the student’s creative confidence. While completing these art projects, students gain and build upon existing vocabulary to be applied during supportive critiques at the end of each class.

The Imagination Stage

This class introduces students to theater. Throughout the week, children learn body movement, how to project their voices and build a character through enjoyable workshops and practical applications. Students explore what it takes to create a character for the stage through the magic of imagination!

The Magic Lens

This class teaches students the rudimentary principles of photography. Pictures will be taken out-of-doors and, if time permits, downloaded onto Mac computers, where students will learn the basics of Photoshop in our state-of-the-art Mac Lab. Note: Children must bring a digital camera and USB cable on the first day of class and the remainder of the week. Camera must have USB connection capability.

Feel The Beat!

This is an interactive music class focusing on the basics of rhythm, pulse, and musical creativity while creating self-esteem, social cohesion, and cooperative playing. Students learn to play a variety of percussion instruments such as drums, wood blocks, shakers and bells and incorporate them in songs and musical games.

Yoga For Kids

Yoga comes to life in these fun and creative classes designed to expand students’ minds and encourage wellness. Cooperative games, themed activities, storytelling, and music engage our children’s natural energy and enthusiasm. Classes explore yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery, and creative relaxation techniques while conveying lessons in self-expression, body image, and positive thinking. Partner poses and yoga games build positive peer interactions and social skills. This is a unique way for children to build skills they can carry into their everyday lives. This class is for children of all fitness levels.
