Hispanic Heritage Culturally Relevant Pedagogy

Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968, as Hispanic Heritage Week, under President Lyndon Johnson. The celebration was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The 2020 theme is Hispanics: Be Proud of Your Past, Embrace the Future. September 15 to October 15 is celebrated nationwide as National Hispanic Heritage Month. It traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino(x) Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. During this month, and throughout the year, we, and our partners, share history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino(x) Americans of past and present. Contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America are recognized! ISU students have been engaged in activities and events for several weeks. The Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Series will close out the celebration, for administrators, faculty and staff on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10 am.
