Description

Horror films are far more than jump scares and on-screen torture. Many horror films engage in profound and compelling social commentary. Horror films are particularly active in exploring social justice issues.

Amanda Hobson--horror scholar, Indiana State University assistant dean of students and director of the women's resource center--will present how horror films participate in cultural and political critique and meaning-making. Hobson will specifically address the impact of gender and racial diversity in front of and behind the camera in contemporary horror films.

This event is a part of the 9th annual Women in Horror Month Celebration #WiHM9, an international, grassroots initiative educating and showcasing the underrepresented work of women in the horror industry, and it is the second year for Indiana State University participation in WiHM.
