Description

The Gamma Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, in conjunction with the Indiana State University School of Music announces that the 48th annual Indiana State University Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday February 18th, 2023. The previous years have seen many successful ISU Jazz festivals that have included outstanding performances by middle schools and high schools from throughout the Midwest. We have also been privileged to witness some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world performing in concert at the ISU Jazz Festival. Past clinicians / performers have included J.J. Johnson, Wycliffe Gordon, Larry Mckenna, and most recently, Geoffrey Keeser. Although the unanticipated COVID-19 has taken a toll on all our music programs to date, our students and faculty here at ISU are looking forward to what the future can bring with the help of your amazing middle and high school bands at the ISU Jazz Festival. We are excited to announce that Adam Meckler is the featured guest artist for the 2022 ISU Jazz Festival. A trumpet player, composer, and educator living in Upper Peninsula Michigan where he is the Director of Jazz Studies at Michigan Technological University, Meckler is an Edwards Instrument Co. Performing Artist and Clinician. He leads The Adam Meckler Orchestra (AMO), an 18-piece big band that plays his original compositions. The AMO's debut album 'When the Clouds Look Like This' was listed among 2014's Best Jazz Releases by iTunes. Adam tours and records with The Hornheads (Prince), Youngblood Brass Band, and Nooky Jones. His latest release with The Adam Meckler Orchestra, Magnificent Madness, is available via Ropeadope Records, and on all streaming platforms now.
