Description
The faculty and students of Indiana State University’s School of Music are pleased to present sensory-friendly performances of Peter and the Wolf this April. The music that will be performed is considered an “orchestral fairy tale for children” and includes a narrator, who tells the story throughout, as well as several characters that are portrayed by the instruments of the orchestra.
Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a performing arts experience that is welcoming to all children with disabilities. Specifically, the following accommodation will be included: Lower sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds; Lights remain on at a low level in the performance venue during the concert; No strobe lighting or lighting focused on the audience; Patrons are free to talk and leave their seats during the concert; Designated quiet area within the performance venue for any student who may need a break; Space throughout the performance venue for standing and movement; Limited crowds and visitors at the performance venue during the day and timing of the concert; and ISU faculty and students trained to be inviting and accommodating to the student’s needs. It is our hope that by combining music intended for children as well as sensory-friendly accommodations, this concert experience will be enjoyed by all.
