Buddhism is a way of life that teaches the individual to find and develop the true self and to make life more creative and meaningful.

After a brief introduction, Buddhist meditation will be explained. Then, class participants will have the opportunity to experience this kind of meditation. Following a brief description of Buddha’s life, the rest of the first class will be devoted to a discussion of the different kinds of Buddhism.

The next two classes will focus on the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path teaches right ways of living and activity, which can change our consciousness. Class participants will learn how these ways can be applied to their lives in order to give them more peace and happiness.

The last class will investigate the various major concepts of Buddhism, such as the Middle Way, Karma, the Threefold Refuge, and the Dharma. Since the value of Buddhism is determined by how one lives it, students will be encouraged to think of how these concepts can be used in concrete situations.
