Tom Reck has been covering sports and regular news in southern Indiana and the Wabash Valley since the 1950s. He started as a freshman at Indiana State Teachers’ College in the 1950s, covering Duane Klueh's first basketball teams at ISU and some great high school teams when the Wabash Valley Tourney was a big event. Howard Sharpe was one of the coaches. Terry Dischinger and Charlie Hall were just two of the great athletes. Tom went on to cover the Bloomfield Cardinals when they won two Valley titles and made their first trip to the semi-state. He returned to Bloomfield after spending two years in the U. S. Army before going to Bloomington where he did some stories on the Indiana Hoosiers and their Rose Bowl game. He returned to Terre Haute in 1968 and mainly covered Indiana State but also was responsible for coverage of prep sports.

He was at ISU when some of its greatest athletes wore the Blue and White -- Larry Bird, Kurt Thomas, and Bruce Baumgartner. He was in Arizona when the Sycamores won the NCAA gymnastics championship and was in Utah for the game pitting Bird against Magic which set a record for viewers who were watching on the tube. He was in Omaha when the Sycamores played in the College World Series. And so it goes. Reck will recall those events and more.
